Died from illnesses contracted as a result of work on the rescue and recovery from the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001. Detective Dennis Vickery died as the result of cancer that he developed following his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. Detective Vickery was a U.S. Army veteran. He had served with the NYPD for 30 years and was assigned to the Internal Affairs Bureau. He is survived by his wife, two children, and seven grandchildren.
