When the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic first hit New York City in March of 2020, our Detectives, of course, remained on the front lines. Within a few weeks, six of our active Detectives passed away from the virus and the DEA fought for their deaths to be deemed in the line of duty. First Grade Det. Christopher McDonnell of the Intelligence Division was appointed to the force on April 30, 1991, and earned his gold shield on December 17, 1999. He earned second grade on August 5, 2009, and first grade on August 31, 2018. He died on May 6, 2020 from COVID-19. You can read more information, including a full obituary, about Det. First Grade Christopher McDonnell on the union’s Honor Roll on our website at www.nycdetectives.org
