When the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic first hit New York City in March of 2020, our Detectives, of course, remained on the front lines. Within a few weeks, six of our active Detectives passed away from the virus and the DEA fought for their deaths to be deemed in the line of duty. Det. Raymond Abear of the Queens Special Victims Squad was appointed to the force on July 1, 2001, and earned his gold shield on May 2, 2016. He died on April 13, 2020 from COVID-19. You can read more, including a full obituary about Det. Abear, on the DEA's website Honor Roll.
