When the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic first hit New York City in March of 2020, our Detectives, of course, remained on the front lines. Within a few weeks, six of our active Detectives passed away from the virus and the DEA fought for their deaths to be deemed in the line of duty. Det. Robert Cardona, our DEA Delegate from the 13 Squad, was appointed to the force on July 2, 2001, and earned his gold shield on June 26, 2009. He died on April 15, 2020 from COVID-19. You can read more information, including a full obituary, about Det. Cardona on the union’s Honor Roll on our website at www.nycdetectives.org
