Died from illnesses contracted as a result of work on the rescue and recovery from the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001. Detective Harry D'Onofrio died as the result of an illness that he developed following his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. Detective D'Onofrio had served with the New York Police Department for 20 years and had been assigned to the Emergency Service Unit. He is survived by his wife, two children, and three grandchildren.
