Det. Philip J. Curtin of the 28 Squad was temporarily assigned to the Borough Manhattan East Detectives and assigned a post at the Polish Embassy on the upper east side of Manhattan. On October 2, 1960, while standing outside the Embassy at 12 East 66th Street, he fell backwards down a few steps. He was taken to Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Curtin was appointed to the NYPD on October 1, 1931. He died a day after the anniversary of his 29th year on the force.
